DNA Sciences samples PPGx

Patient samples are a useful tool for discovering disease genetics, but obtaining them is a lengthy process. DNA Sciences Inc. believes it will save time with its purchase of PPGx Inc., which will provide a bolus of existing samples to the combined company. DNA Sciences, which is developing gene-based clinical tools that it plans to market to physicians and patients, also will add PPGx's distribution channel to its business infrastructure.

"With this acquisition, we've bought time and samples," said DNA Sciences Chairman and CEO Hugh Rienhoff. "Sample collection is a considerable undertaking. We have patient samples in diabetes, oncology, asthma and other areas, and PPGx brings samples in osteoporosis and inflammatory bowel disease," thereby allowing DNA Sciences to increase its programs without having to collect new sets of disease samples...
