Developing potentially competing products is not normally the way to maintain a good relationship with a corporate partner. In the case of PharmaPrint Inc., conflicting interests have led to a collapse of the company's herbal dietary supplement agreement with American Home Products Corp. as well as an exchange of breach of contract lawsuits.

In 1997, PPRT signed an exclusive agreement under which it is providing standardized herbal products to AHP, including saw palmetto, St. John's wort, echinacea, ginkgo biloba, ginseng and garlic. AHP launched the products in October 1998 under its Centrum Herbal brand.
