The Monsanto-AHP Deal

The seeds of a giant

OXFORD - Merging Monsanto and AHP will create the world's number one agrochemicals company. According to industry analysts at Wood Mackenzie (Edinburgh, U.K.), the merger will create a crop protection business with global sales of $5.08 billion, leapfrogging the Novartis crop protection business, which posted agrochemical sales of $4.2 billion in 1997.

The merged company's sales will be heavily skewed to North America, which will account for 45 percent of sales, although North America accounts for only about a quarter of world's global agrochemical sales.
