WASHINGTON - The House
last week brushed off a major challenge to patent legislation that is strongly
supported by the biotechnology industry.
The House voted 227-178
to reject Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's (R-Calif.) substitute for H.R. 400, the 21st
Century Patent System Improvement Act. The vote paves the way for passage of
the omnibus bill, which the Clinton administration supports.
