FDA stumbles on Flavr Savr schedule

The FDA did an abrupt about-face last week, postponing its committee review of Calgene Inc.'s Flavr Savr tomato just two days after the agency published an item in the Federal Register saying it was "in the public interest" to hold the meeting on short notice.

On Thursday the FDA said the meeting would be delayed because of "administrative and logistical problems in getting people and materials together." No new date has been set...
