FDA gives a thumbs up to bST

WASHINGTON - The FDA on Friday approved Monsanto Co.'s recombinant bovine somatotropin (bST) for increasing milk production in dairy cows with no restrictions other than a program of post-approval monitoring.

Monsanto will have to wait 90 days to market Posilac, its trade name for bST, because of a provision in the 1994 federal budget bill inserted by opponents of the hormone.The company said it will make the product available to commercial customers as soon as the waiting period ends...
