OXFORD - Prime Minister Tony Blair last week nailed his colors to the biotech mast and pledged to do what he can to stem the rising tide of anti-science in the U.K. and provide greater support to British research to recapture the U.K.'s former European pre-eminence.

"Biotechnology is the next wave of the knowledge economy, and I want Britain to become its European hub," Blair told delegates attending the U.K. BioIndustry Association's European CEO and Investor meeting.
