WASHINGTON - Michael
Bilirakis (R-Fla.), chair of the House Commerce Committee's subcommittee on
health and the environment, last week announced that he would form a bipartisan
group of subcommittee members to draft FDA user fee and reform legislation.
Bilirakis emphasized the
importance of reauthorizing the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) as well
as his intention to avoid the partisan conflicts that colored last year's
debates on FDA reform. "The measure of success is meaningful legislation
signed by the president," he said at a hearing last week.
