NIH spin-off finally gets started

WASHINGTON - The National Foundation for Biomedical Research (NFBR), authorized by Congress in 1990 and reauthorized in 1993, has finally opened for business. Housed in offices on the main campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., the NFBR was established to support projects that fall within the historic mission of the NIH but which are not currently being funded with public money.

The NFBR is incorporated in Maryland as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt foundation and is soliciting contributions from private donors and other parties interested in the funding of biomedical research and training, and in the dissemination of research findings...
