The government's vision for biotech

WASHINGTON - The National Science and Technology Council, a cabinet-level organization that helps the president coordinate science, space and technology policies throughout the federal government, last week released a report called "Biotechnology For The 21st Century: New Horizons".

The report, prepared by the council's biotechnology research subcommittee of the Committee on Fundamental Science, concludes that "biotechnology is expected to have a dramatic effect on the world economy over the next decade" and that government support for biotechnology research should be diversified to include manufacturing, environmental cleanup, and marine biotechnology...
