Congress jumps into Ward Valley

WASHINGTON - Congress indicated last week its intent to become involved in state and regional disputes surrounding low-level radioactive waste disposal, acting on a measure to speed construction of a radioactive waste dump in California and dealing at least a temporary defeat to creation of another waste facility in Texas.

The House Committee on Natural Resources voted to resolve a dispute between the Clinton administration and California over terms of the transfer of land for the Ward Valley low-level radioactive waste disposal facility.
