Taking care of business
Business hates to give up a good thing. On the flip side, politicians always react with righteous indignation when they think business has taken advantage of them. When the two forces collide, the prospects for marrying well-intentioned public policy with private sector investment clearly is endangered.
But when both sides are persistent, as in the prolonged effort to reach some common ground on orphan drugs, the outcome can be OK.
