Joseph Dear, chief investment officer of California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), passed away at 62 after battling prostate cancer. Services will be held in Sacramento, Calif., and Olympia, Wash., though details are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Joseph A. Dear Memorial Scholarship Endowment at The Evergreen State College Foundation.
