TissUse: Human on a chip

TissUse's multi-organ array could supplement, replace animal, human testing

TissUse GmbH is developing a system to allow for long-term maintenance of multiple human tissues or organoids on an array. This "human-on-a-chip" could eventually supplement or replace some preclinical and clinical safety testing. TissUse's long-term plan is to generate a disease model that might also provide early efficacy data.

The platform is smartphone-sized and self-contained. A peristaltic pump on the chip operates a microcirculation system interconnecting several tissue culture spaces within a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-embedded microfluidic channel system.
