In July 1999, French legislators revised the law on innovation and research, the "Loi sur l'innovation et la recherche." The revised law has four components.


Academic Job Security

Academic researchers now are allowed to keep their academic positions for several years while they try their luck in the private sector, making it less risky to be an entrepreneur. Previously, it was illegal to hold an academic position while having significant ownership in a startup.
