Sound bites on stem cells
WASHINGTON - Only hours before the latest advances in cloning research were to be unveiled in Science, a made-for-the-media congressional hearing highlighted the breadth of disagreement over the reality of stem cell research, with one side recalling the Nazi crimes of the past and the other evoking the promise of miracle cures in the future.
The session also highlighted fears that the private sector can be expected to behave unethically unless the government is involved in managing such research.
