Bursting the bubble
The clear and dramatic success of a gene therapy treatment in immunocompromised children has demonstrated the ability of gene therapy to succeed in academic settings, in a limited number of patients with a narrow range of well-suited indications.
The results reported in Science last week also help point to factors that influence the therapeutic outcome, and provide a much-needed antidote to the recent bad press for gene therapy.
