These are a few of the accusations hurled at the biotechnology community -
in industry and academe - in recent full-page advertisements in The New York
Times. The adverts, which their sponsors claim have generated "tens of thousands"
of hits on their web pages and prompted calls from CNN, ABC television
and Time magazine, have gone unanswered.
Last week's blast warned that the biotechnology industry is
playing "genetic roulette" and provided a page-worth of warnings about the "grave
risk of destructive - and irreversible - genetic pollution."
