First of two parts
Recently, needing a quart of milk, we dropped by the local supermarket and got our first taste of the collision between biotech and consumerism. Upon reaching the dairy case, we noticed a sign - handwritten but in several bright colors - proclaiming that "Berkeley Farms milk does not contain rBGH."
At the checkout line we casually asked the bag boy whether the store received many inquiries about bovine growth hormone. "Oh sure, all the time," he replied. "People are really worried about that stuff." Then, lowering his voice, he added, "And we don't even have a sign for some other new stuff that they're putting in, which is EVEN WORSE!"
