NIH readies deal inquiry

WASHINGTON -- The NIH has decided to investigate licensing agreements between the top NIH-funded non-profit research institutions and private companies in response to a congressional inquiry into the pricing of drugs developed using federally subsidized research.

The NIH last week still was developing a list of 20-25 grantees, which include the major research universities, from which to request information on co-development arrangements, said agency spokeswoman Joanna Snyder.
